Self-Tanning Tips

Tips for Self-Tanning

Rather than exposing your skin to the harmful rays of the sun or dealing with a potential spray tan mishap, try a self-tanning method that is safe and easy. The following tips will help you get a natural glow that can last all summer.

Moisturize – Moisturizing your skin is the first step to achieving an even tan. Be sure to apply extra moisturizer to your hands, feet, elbows and knees, since these areas tend to be drier than other areas of your skin. Try using SeneDerm® Advanced Hydration Body Lotion, which contains sodium hyaluronate — which functions as a tissue lubricant — and French plum oil to promote smooth, healthy skin.

Exfoliate – The next step is to exfoliate. You want to ensure that dead skin cells are buffed away to ensure that the self-tanner goes on to smooth, healthy skin to lengthen the results. Use an exfoliating wash in the shower, such as SeneDerm Body Scrub, focusing on thicker areas of skin like knees, elbows, and ankles, to make sure skin is smooth and prepared for self-tanner application.

Use gloves or wash hands frequently – When applying the tanning lotion, it’s best to use latex gloves to avoid staining your hands or allowing it to accumulate between your fingers and on your cuticles. If you don’t have gloves, or prefer not to use them, the American Academy of Dermatology suggests washing your hands with soap and water frequently during the self-tanning process.

Work from the bottom up – Select a moisturizing, streak-free self-tanner such as SeneDerm Self-Tanning Bronzing Coconut Milk and apply it from the bottom up. If you begin with your upper body, you may risk creating streaks around your torso when bending over to do your legs and feet. By starting from the bottom, you’ll ensure a more even tan.

Dilute over your joints – When applying self-tanner to your knees, elbows and ankles, dilute it with regular lotion or apply a thin layer with a damp washcloth. This will help you avoid tanning these areas too darkly, which is easy to do since they tend to absorb more lotion than other regions on your body.

Be patient – Wait at least 10 minutes before getting dressed to avoid rubbing off the lotion before your skin has fully absorbed it. You should also avoid sweating and opt for loose clothing for the next three hours, as recommended by the AAD.

Continue to wear sunscreen – Even though you’ll have achieved a lovely glow in a safe way, you still need to apply sunscreen each day to avoid skin damage and help maintain your new tan. The AAD advises to select a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, like SeneDerm® SeneSun™ SPF 30 SunScreen.

Glitter ShadowSenses

Tips on applying Glitter ShadowSense

Because ShadowSense Glitter shades contain larger glitter and shimmer particles, a little extra care may be needed in order to achieve an even, long-lasting application. Here are a few tips to help you get gorgeous, glittering eyes:

Do not apply glitter shade directly on your eyelids with the doe foot applicator. Instead, transfer the product from the wand onto a palette or your hand, then place onto your eyelids with a brush or your fingertip. This will help keep your ShadowSense wand clean and will reduce the drag and amount of pressure you are using to apply the color, ensuring that any ShadowSense color you have on underneath will remain in place and undisturbed.

Do not blend or rub to apply – pat on the glitter color instead. Since glitter shades contain large particles, forcefully blending them onto your eyelid creates friction caused by rubbing the glitters, which may lift your ShadowSense color underneath. Use a brush or your fingertip to lightly pat on the glitter color.

For best long-lasting results, start with a matte or shimmer ShadowSense color, then apply your glitter color on top.

Refrigerate your EyeCrème

Refrigerate your EyeCrème. The trick of placing a cold cucumber or cloth over puffy eyes to help reduce swelling and the appearance of dark and heavy eye bags is a tried and true beauty trick. Naturally, keeping your EyeCrème and EyeLuminator in the refrigerator until ready for use can help minimize swelling around the eyes. Aside from the anti-aging and moisturizing benefits you’ll receive from these products, you’ll also experience a cooling sensation that helps restrict blood vessels and reduce swelling to help minimize the appearance of dark circles and eye bags.

Moca Java ShadowSense for Contour

Use Moca Java ShadowSense to contour. This shade is uniquely ideal for contouring because it has a grey tone, which is perfect for creating shadows. The doe foot applicator makes it easy to place product where needed. Its creamy formula blends beautifully without leaving behind harsh lines. Since the product is smudge-proof once it dries, you’ll want to work one section of the face at a time. However, once it sets, it won’t budge or smudge until you’re ready to remove it.

Healthy, soft, and hydrated lips are not just beautiful – they also allow for better lip color application and wear. Here’s how you can improve the condition of your lips using SeneGence skin care and cosmetics.

Regularly exfoliate lips with LipSmooth Conditioning Polish to remove dry, dead skin and soften lips. Non-abrasive Bamboo and Ivory Seed Powders gently exfoliate without damaging skin while Nangai Oil and Shea Butter re-moisturize and condition lips.

Lips age over time as manifested by fine lines and wrinkles that cause feathering, and a reduction in lip volume due to the decrease in collagen production. Help reverse the signs of aging in lips and achieve a fuller pout with LipVolumizer. Our Volumizing Complex, consisting of a blend of peptides and botanicals plus Kiss-Me-Quick Plant, helps you achieve lasting results, increasing lip fullness up to 20% and moisture up to 50% with continued use.

Treat lips tenderly when it comes to removing LipSense by using Ooops!® Remover. When you’re ready to remove your LipSense, apply the product directly on top of lips and let it sit for a minute or two to penetrate the layers of long-lasting color. Using a damp cotton round or a Fooops! SenseCosmetics Color Removing Wipe, gently wipe away the color to reveal clean, soft lips.

Keep lips moisturized and protected with LipSense Moisturizing Gloss and LipSense Moisturizing Lip Balm. LipSense Moisturizing Gloss keeps lips soft and health with Vitamin E and Shea Butter and wears beautifully on top of any LipSense shade. For your no-makeup days and before going to bed, Moisturizing Balm made with Coconut Oil, Cocoa and Shea Butters, and Orchid Flower Extract helps soften and nourish lips.
